The National Honor Society at Three Rivers High School is crocheting mats for the homeless out of recyclable plastic bags! Students are collecting the bags, creating the plarn (plastic yarn) and, with the help of parent and community volunteers, crocheting the mats. It takes 500-700 bags per mat, so you can image the number of hours (and LOVE!) that goes into the creation of these resources! The plan is to distribute the mats to the homeless.

- Crochet hooks for students – Sizes can vary
- RECYCLABLE plastic bags
- Volunteers to crochet or make plarn
- A Pledge to help make the mats possible
Each mat requires a $200 pledge. It is important to note that you can contribute with any monetary amount. However, we are thankful and blown away by the interest in local businesses to donate the full $200 for this cause. NHS also extends a huge “thank you” to our initial donor and parent-volunteer, Robin Burpee. She crocheted our first mat, holds “how-to” sessions, and has donated through her business (Chicken Coop Treasures, Inc.) to sponsor our first mat. We are very thankful for her time and efforts to help make this a success!
